Introduction

I’m Matt Robertson, North West England based. I have been playing GW games for 19 years now since I was 11, and 40k for almost 18, regularly attending events for around 16 years. I have always had a slight focus onto the competitive side but really got hooked by it as soon as I could drive myself around the country to events and then fly outside of it too. The competitive scene and local groups of people are what makes the hobby what it is. Army wise I own every faction and play them as often as possible to stay sharp on the changing meta.   During the summer, team England preparation demands mastery of one faction whilst dabbling with others to fully understand how they play.

Achievements

ETC 2019 1st place. Representing @ WTC since 2011. Nova open semi final & invitational final 2014. Adepticon Final 2022. Multiple UK & EU top 3 finishes in both singles & teams formats.

Coaching Experience

I have been coaching Warhammer since 2020, starting off with local clients to help them improve as much as possible, before joining Art of War in 2022. My passion for 40K has meant that spending time speaking to others around the world helping them has been very enjoyable and has led to me using some armies I hadn’t in a while, to better understand them for clients needs.

Game Style and Specialty

Playstyle wise I consider myself very toolbox oriented wanting to use armies that have tricks and options in any situation. Armies with lots of movement manipulation I love and feel this is an area that lets you apply pressure on your terms and can react to the game flow. However I was recently told that I am “very good at seeing the point in a game to go for the jugular and close it out” so also have that aggressive play style switch able to be flicked.

Teaching Philosophy

I have spent lots of time in my day to day job alongside apprentices coaching and mentoring, so have experience ranging from breaking down the basics to quite complex situations given the field I work in. In a 40K world, lots of call time and messaging with game photos for discussion has been super productive with previous clients, going through recaps of games and how they could have reacted or different options in different scenarios alongside looking ahead to games and having a plan in place for those.
